ABOUT THE ARC
The Agriculture Research Centre is based at Coleg Sir Gar's Gelli Aur Campus. The combination of excellent teaching, commercial farming and technology transfer has led to Gelli Aur being recognised as the Centre of Excellence for land-based studies in Wales.
Gelli Aur is a tight-knit community with friendly staff on campus, offering only the best to its students and the agriculture industry generally. The campus has conference Facilities. Meaning, Gelli Aur is also available throughout the year for seminars, conferences and meetings. The modern facilities supported by a dedicated team of lecturers, trainers and technical support staff and excellent catering offering varied menus make it an ideal venue for any training and professional development events.
John Owen
Responsible for the Project Management of Tywi Farm Nutrient Partnership and Tywydd Tywi Weather. John has a long history of delivery of applied research. Most recently Prosiectslyri and the Grass Value projects. Previously he managed the College Farms for Coleg Sir Gâr.
John is involved with several farming organisations. He is a Council member and Trustee of the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers and is Chair of the South West Wales TB Eradication Board. He is a Trehane Nuffield Scholar and an Associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies.
Neil Nicholas
After graduating from University, he began his professional career working at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, the University of Oxford as a research assistant. Neil later returned to Wales and trained as a science teacher. He has recently begun an online MSc. BioInnovation course at Aberystwyth University.
Responsible for all day-to-day activities surrounding the treatment process, system operation, implementation and evaluation, data acquisition and analysis. On-going duties will be to develop the most effective solutions through sample testing and application. Has experience of working in similar roles on previous Welsh Government funded projects.
Ann Owen
Iwan Jones
Iwan Jones lives on a sheep farm in the upper reaches of the Towy valley.
He graduated from Aberystwyth university in 2018 with a BSc in Geography.
After graduating, he went on to work at Frontier Agriculture as a trials research officer working on precision agronomy in cereal crops.
He has now returned to Wales as a research assistant in precision agriculture and nutrient management under the SMART expertise research project.
Some of the challenges he hopes to tackle is the utilisation of readily available nutrients on farm and also the storage of slurry through the winter months.
Gruffydd Huw
Gruffydd Huw is the project administrator for social media and digital marketing. After finishing school, he set off to study art & design. He graduated with an MA from Nottingham Trent University in 2019. Currently, he is furthering his studies by enrolling in an MSc in Advanced Media Production at Aberystwyth University.
Since then, he has gone on to work as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer, often producing content for social media pages such as the TSR Network.
His responsibilities include running the ARC social media pages and working closely with our media partners.
