CHINA GRASS

The China Grass Project’s main objective is to take measurements of grass growth data to produce an accurate ground-based calibration data set to allow post processing of Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data to calibrate historic and live satellite imagery. This will allow for further estimation of biomass levels for grass as well as maturity estimation and yield quantification. This needs to be done on different production systems (Grazing and Silage).

HIGHLIGHTS

Sampling will be completed by Precision Decisions staff (PD/MOA), Newcastle University farms (NUF) and Coleg Sir Gar research staff (CSG).
Each of the sites above will be measuring grass regularly (approx. Once per weekly) on their grazed fields across their farms throughout the season using a rising plate meter.
